മിനുസമുള്ള തണ്ടുകളുള്ള പടർന്നു കയറുന്ന ചെടി. ഹൃദയാകൃതിയിൽ അറ്റം കൂർത്തതും അരികുകൾ ദന്തുരമായതുമായ ഇലകൾ. ചുവപ്പിനോടടുക്കുന്ന തവിട്ടുനിറത്തിലുള്ള പൂക്കൾ. പാകമാകുമ്പോൾ കറുപ്പു നിറമാകുന്ന കായകൾ(berry) മുന്തിരിക്കുലകളോട് സാമ്യമുള്ള കുലകളിലാണ് കാണപ്പെടുന്നത്. 2-4 കുരുക്കൾ ഓരോ കായയിലും കാണാം. മെയ് മുതൽ ജൂൺ വരെയുള്ള കാലത്താണ് പൂക്കളും കായകളും ഉണ്ടാകുന്നത്. <ref name=":0" />
